Luncheon, 2025

CA$500.00

This ceramic collage was inspired by two paintings, one by Pierre Boncompain and the other by Vincent Van Gogh. Thoughtfully selected elements from both are combined to create an original composition of a sunny summer picnic in the park. The support is glazed stoneware with enamel paint featuring a basket of ripe citrus fruits, a joyfully patterned tablecloth, and a glass of water. A slice of lemon and two small flowers (or are they part of the tablecloth rendered in relief?) have been separately hand made, glazed, and attached after firing.

This piece is unique.

Holly Wheatcroft’s ceramic collages offer a playful take on the still life genre where objects are anything but “still” as they break away and spill out of their frames. Glazed stoneware slabs and shapes are layered with art historical references and a focus on pattern and texture. The artist’s use of clay is a deliberate and contemporary choice to highlight pottery’s role throughout the ages as an enduring storytelling medium.
